The Ihya Apothecary

Prophetic Medicine.
Modern Evidence.

Every ingredient in Ihya was prescribed by the Prophet ﷺ or mentioned in the Quran. Every claim is backed by peer-reviewed research. Here, tradition and science meet.

Black Seed (Nigella sativa)
حَبَّةُ السَّوْدَاء

Black Seed

Nigella sativa · 200mg per serving · Standardized to 2% Thymoquinone

The single most referenced healing substance in Prophetic Medicine. Black seed has been used across Islamic civilization for over a millennium — and modern science is confirming why.

Prophetic Tradition
"In the black seed is healing for every disease except death."

Sahih al-Bukhari 5688, narrated by Abu Hurairah

This Hadith is classified as Sahih (authentic) and is among the most well-known prescriptions in Tibb al-Nabawi. The comprehensiveness of the claim — "every disease" — has driven centuries of use and, more recently, scientific investigation.

Clinical Evidence

The primary bioactive compound is thymoquinone (TQ), which has been the subject of 200+ peer-reviewed studies.

Documented properties include anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, hepatoprotective, and immunomodulatory effects.

A 2019 systematic review in the Journal of Pharmacopuncture concluded that Nigella sativa demonstrates significant therapeutic potential across multiple organ systems.

تَمْرُ العَجْوَة

Ajwa Dates

Phoenix dactylifera · 1,000mg per serving · Powder extract

Not just any date — Ajwa is a specific cultivar from Madinah, distinguished by its unique phenolic profile and the Prophet's ﷺ explicit recommendation to consume it daily.

Ajwa Dates
Prophetic Tradition
"He who eats seven Ajwa dates every morning will not be affected by poison or magic on that day."

Sahih al-Bukhari 5445, narrated by Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas

The specificity is notable — not just any dates, but specifically Ajwa. Not just any amount, but seven. The Prophet ﷺ prescribed this with a precision that suggests functional awareness of the cultivar's properties.

Clinical Evidence

Ajwa dates contain a unique antioxidant profile not found in other date varieties, including specific phenolic compounds and flavonoids.

Research published in the Journal of the Saudi Society of Agricultural Sciences demonstrates cardioprotective effects, including support for healthy cholesterol levels and reduction of oxidative stress markers.

Additional studies show hepatoprotective and nephroprotective properties specific to the Ajwa cultivar.

Raw Honey
عَسَل

Raw Honey

Spray-dried raw honey powder · 1,000mg per serving

One of only two healing substances mentioned directly in the Quran. Ihya uses spray-dried raw honey to preserve the bioactive compounds that processed honey destroys.

Quranic & Prophetic Tradition
"And your Lord inspired the bee... There comes from their bellies a drink of varying colors, in which there is healing for mankind."

Quran, Surah An-Nahl (16:68-69)

Honey is one of the few substances explicitly described as "healing" in the Quran itself. The Prophet ﷺ also recommended honey as medicine: "Make use of the two cures: honey and the Quran." (Ibn Majah)

Clinical Evidence

Raw honey contains flavonoids, hydrogen peroxide, methylglyoxal, and bee defensin-1 — compounds responsible for its antimicrobial properties.

Clinical evidence supports wound healing, cough suppression, and gut microbiome support. Raw (unprocessed) honey retains these bioactive enzymes; commercial pasteurized honey does not.

Our spray-drying process preserves these compounds while converting honey to a stable powder format suitable for an electrolyte blend.

مِلْح

Pink Himalayan Salt

Khewra Mine, Pakistan · 786mg sodium per serving

The master electrolyte. Sourced from the ancient Khewra Mine in Pakistan — the world's second-largest salt mine. 786mg per serving: the Abjad numerical value of Bismillah.

Pink Himalayan Salt
Prophetic Tradition
"The master of your condiments is salt."

Sunan Ibn Majah 3315

Salt (milh) is described as the foundation of seasoning and preservation in Islamic tradition. The Prophet ﷺ recommended starting meals with salt. Our sourcing from Khewra connects the ingredient to the land and heritage of Muslim civilization.

Clinical Evidence

Sodium is the primary electrolyte lost through sweat and is essential for cellular hydration, nerve function, and fluid balance.

786mg represents an optimal mid-range dose — higher than casual hydration drinks (~200-400mg) but lower than extreme endurance formulas (~1000mg+). Ideal for the sustained, moderate dehydration of fasting.

Himalayan salt contains 84+ trace minerals not found in refined table salt, including potassium, magnesium, and calcium in naturally occurring ratios.

Our Approach

Formulation Principles

Every decision in Ihya's formula follows these four principles.

Sunnah First

If the Prophet ﷺ prescribed it or the Quran mentions it, it belongs in the formula. We build around tradition, not trends.

Science Validates

Every traditional ingredient must also have modern clinical evidence. Faith and data are not in conflict — they confirm each other.

Nothing Artificial

No synthetic sweeteners. No artificial dyes. No FD&C colors. Monk fruit is our only sweetener. If it doesn't occur in nature, it doesn't go in the formula.

Full Transparency

Every milligram disclosed. No proprietary blends. No hidden ingredients. You deserve to know exactly what you're putting in your body.
